About three weeks ago, I began seeking out medical treatment for my back. I was tired of dealing with the pain and physical limitations. Through a ER visit, I was referred to a spine and wellness center. With the wellness center, I have one doctor who completes the referrals and manages my care. Something that needed to happen a long, long time ago. On my first appointment, he started me on physical therapy and a muscle relaxer. I have completed 4 physical therapy sessions and have made minimal, but at least some progress. Today, through another medical appointment (not related to my back) I was told that I can no longer take Tylenol, Aleve, or ibuprofen. Pretty much, I'm not able to take any over the counter pain medications. This decision was secondary to another medication that I take that has interactions to the over the counter pain meds. I immediately wanted to start crying as I didn't know what I was going to do with the back pain. After discussing with my spine doctor, the only thing we can do is handle the pain with alternative methods that don't include drugs/medications. I saw my physical therapist today and felt a little uneasy. Lets just say that the doctor and physical therapist have different opinions regarding alternative pain management. After having a doctor and physical therapy apt for by back today, I sit tonight in pain and feel frustrated because all i can do is ice. I have at least 2 or more months before I can begin to take over the counter medications. I hope and pray for strength, healing, and patience as I go through this process.
