I'm a Tri athlete!

On August 4, 2011 I completed my first beginners sprint triathlon.  The race included a 400 yard swim, 6 mile bike, and 2 mile run/walk.  My strongest leg in the race was definitely swimming. Which i completed in 10 minutes including the time it to took me to transition from swim to the point of getting on the bike.  I have to say that is not an easy process, trying to get on your shirt and shoes when your dripping wet.  I struggled on the bike as I sprinted too much in the swim and my bike didn't fit me appropriately.  I will be adjusting that for the next time.  I ended with a jog/walk interval pace for the last leg, took me approximately 32 minutes.  Not too bad over all with the place of 14th in my division.  My total time was one hour and 13 minutes!!!!  I was supported by my trainer who encouraged me from start to finish.  She also saved my butt when I forgot my googles for the swim.  I was joined at the finish line by my sister and nephew.  I have a great support team outside of the race with my parents/relatives/friends with me in spirit. There are a few things that I definitely learned for the next time, wear socks and shorts!  I didn't put on my socks during my swim to bike transition.  This lead to friction burns on both of my heels.  Also, put on pants to protect your legs from friction.  I have included some pictures that I have collected so far.  The big question that everyone is asking, would I do it again.  The answer, YOU BET!!!!!  Im ready to sign up for next year.

  1. Before your next tri...a friend has a suit thing that she can wear from the water to the bike and run. It meant she only needed to add shoes (and socks!) during the transition. I could ask where she got it if you're interested.
Congrats again--you're in an elite group!
